Well I naïvely thought writing a kids book would be easy. It's fewer words that's gotta be easy. But I think the words have to be a little bit more precise and thought about, because it’s gonna be read to little kids. consistency in writing is very important. I think you’ve got to show up every day, you gotta be getting words down on the page, even if your heart’s not in it. Even if you don't have any ideas, you’ve just gotta be putting stuff down on the page. And back from my script writing days a lot of people would refer to that as a vomit pass, which is pretty much a first draft. Get the words out there on the page, you get the idea out there. Because if you stop, you’ve stopped. Whereas if you’re being consistent in writing every day, you’re at least getting something, you've got something to work with. But if you're not getting anything down on the page you've got nothing to work with.

Last night something extremely cool happened, apart from the fact that I'm getting up near 100 subscribers on YouTube. Someone subscribed to my channel who's basically been a major inspiration for me to step outside of my comfort zone and document my midlife career pivot experiment. I was listening a lot to Garry Vaynerchuk, and getting positivity into my ears. And I was watching a fair bit of YouTube, watching Cody Wanner’s videos and getting lots of positivity into my eyes. And basically I was getting so much positivity in my head if I didn't actually execute on any of this positivity my brain may have exploded so that's what got me going into all this whole journey and last night Cody Wanner actually subscribed to my YouTube channel and he tweeted it out.

The important thing as well that I realised is that to not only have backup for what you’re doing so you don’t miss a beat and you don’t miss that consistency with your vlogging or the content that you're putting out but to also have worked in a little bit of breathing room in your content so that when the system does go down, when it does crash because it will crash, you've got a redundancy there so you can still be putting stuff out to give you coverage for a couple of days. Also as well as having some backup equipment would be nice, when I get a new phone, I’ll obviously try and keep this phone charged up, keep it on me, so that anything goes wrong I always have a backup. #DailyVlogger #NoSmallCreator

Just as a quick side note to my monetising my journey week, this week. One of the comments from last week from Joy Steward where she mentioned how she managed to get 1000 subscribers, and she did that by putting in a lot of hours, involving yourself with people who are doing videos that you're interested in and commenting on, liking and commenting on, you know, involving yourself in those videos. And also about involving yourself in live streams. And I've been experimenting with live streams over the last two days and I've gained 20 subscribers ,which is massive. I even managed to appear in James Cox’s ‘I am a creator’ and got to chat about what was happening there. There was some audio issues to begin with, but we got over it. So there are people out there, creators out there, willing to help you get the word out about your story, if you are willing to involve yourself in theirs.

Massively excited and equally disappointed today. Some great news for people who are podcasting on the Anchor platform. I think it's a fantastic platform, it’s easy, simple to use, love it. And they've just included a thing where you can click a button and then you'll get proposals from people wanting to sponsor on your show no matter the size and you’ll start earning money from that. You recorded it yourself, you choose were goes on the show, everything like that, it's really exciting. I got really excited about this and until they said Australia is not included, it's just in the US. So that's a big bummer. Then I got thinking about the patron angle when I was talking about monetising my journey and I think okay so, adverts versus no adverts, maybe the entry-level patrons can be supporting the fact that you're not advertising anywhere, your not advertising on your podcast your vlog or your blog. So that might also be another good way to earn some money.

Jumping back into productivity with a positive mindset. The biggest thing to start with is to know how much time you've got to work with, and from there work out what your goals are, and then try and realistically work out what you can get done in the time available. Being a stay at home dad initially feels like time is of a minimum, but when I looked at it there’s little snippets of time all over the place, half an hour here, an hour there. So what I'm looking at doing for these little snippets of time is applying the Pomodoro method which is pretty much a cool name for a tomato timer, you know it could be called the egg method, that doesn't really sound as cool and that's only a couple minutes anyway. So Pomodoro method is about short burst of 25 minutes or so where you focus a hundred percent on that job, try and get that specific task done within that amount of time and when the timer goes that's it, you're done, you're finished.

Now the whole idea behind the fork in the road career pivot experiment was that I was gonna become a human guinea pig, subjecting myself to daily tips, tactic, strategies and hacks in an attempt to discover what works and what can move the needle in having a successful career pivot to having a successful career. The only problem was that I was only spending one day, one minute, one vlog, one chapter of a podcast on each of these methods which is basically highlighting that they existed, but wasn't delving any deeper. So now the new format is that I'll be giving each one of these tactics and entire week to breath, to see what It can do, to see how hard it is to implement in my daily routine and get an idea if it's gonna work or not.

So this weeks experiment all about starting really should've been about procrastinating. But there is some good to come out of procrastinating because I've talked about getting through writers block. Getting through that fear of starting, why do you? What's stopping you from jumping out the plane? It’s not even jumping out a plane, it’s just starting a project, it’s not even that scary, what could you do fail? You could succeed? what's the problem that? you could look like an idiot? That's pretty easy to do, but who cares? Next week the procrastination ends, it's gotta stop, because next week I'm going to be highlighting productivity. So if I can't get anything done next week then I may as well throw in the towel.

I would spend so much time organising and arranging my to-do lists, and obsessing over them that I’d spend all this time doing that rather than doing the things on the to-do list. I'd like to break it down into a list of three items that you come up with at the start of every day and the three items will be, the first item is that one big thing which is gonna move you towards your end goal. the second one is doing something uncomfortable that you don't want to do that you know you have to do if you want to progress further towards your goals. And the third thing on that list is the things that you have to do, those urgent things that need your attention straight away, otherwise you might be put in jail or fined a large amount of money. So they are my three items on my daily checklist

It's a downer blog today, and I don't even know if there will be a blog tomorrow. I've been spending the weekend with my terminally ill dog, and I'm probably gonna have to put her down on Monday, and yeah, so what it's highlighted for me is that like - I didn't even know four days ago that she was sick, dogs are pretty good at hiding those things and yeah so I'm kind of thinking that you never really know when you gonna go. You don't know when you're gonna go, you don't know when your loved ones are gonna go and it's highlighted that you need to be spending your life doing what you want to do, not what other people want you to do.

Looking at my YouTube channel I’ve reached my first milestone which I was talking about, which is 3000 views. Now I don't know whether that's amazing, good, average, indifferent, but to me it's pretty amazing. I'm coming from a background of being projectionist, I know what 3000 people watching a movie looks like. Even if it’s for only one minute black-and-white square films. One thing which I think makes YouTube so good, and you know I hadn’t really thought about it in this respect before but it's different to like posting videos on Facebook or Instagram or anything like that because the thing is with YouTube, is, to start off with you post it and it's up there forever until you take it down, or until YouTube goes bust - I don’t know if that’s ever gonna happen - and the other thing is the search engine it’s just like Google people are always typing in things like how do I do this? how do I do that? and that way they can just find stuff, you can't do that with Instagram or Facebook.

I think the vlog has come along way, and also the fact that I'm spending an entire week on the subject allows me to go deeper on it and I’m personally getting something out of it, and hopefully you might get be getting more out of it too. to be able to say what my why is, it’s just a simple few words, it's not that detailed, it’s not that special whatever but by having those words in my head and having that as my why for some reason I feel a lot more focused and determined and just together with my whole concept of where I want to go a lot more than I ever did because otherwise you're striving for what I think you need to be striving for something you gotta know where you're going or where you want to go, otherwise you're just drifting. Next week, the next logical progression is to go to How on the Golden Circle.

this week I'm still kinda focusing on what needs to be fine tuned on the vlog to date because I’ve kind of realised that I've been skimming far too lightly on these topics and have not giving them a chance too investigate these things further and so there's just been a quick succession of tips and tricks without me actually applying them without me putting them to work and without me implementing my career pivot, the most important thing, Is I’m meant to be doing a career pivot and I’m not even doing that. And I need to work out the storytelling element which is what I love doing, I'm pretty sure that's my purpose, my why, my whatever. And the kids book thing, I just love the idea, but I just wanna make sure I'm not chasing after the next shiny object which seems to be a bit of an entrepreneurial trap.

Maybe empowering is a bit strong. I'm not but I'm going back on what I just said, that was an inspirational speech, but I think more so to be inspiring and helping I mean like so what I'm planning on doing is trying to make a living through storytelling somehow and along the way I will be storytelling the whole time, explaining my process, and how I'm attempting to do that. and if that can be helpful along the way and if I can be helpful to anyone else along the way then together we can all help each other get our stories out there to the world and actually hopefully be able to make a living doing it. I think in this modern age where technology is so cheap and accessible and the fact that everyone has amazing stories in them. I think that is pretty exciting. I'm really excited about this. I am driven by my ‘Why’
